This past weekend I had the fantastic honor of experiencing Black Creativity Night Out at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry! This event displayed art of all mediums from Black Artists !

There are no words to express how amazing and impactful this art event was!
I also found out I knew one of the artists!
Reggie McFly had a spectacular painting that left me breathless! He shared with me the journey of becoming an artist and learning how to love his Blackness throughout his life, amidst the negative portrayals of our culture through the media.
Below is a picture of me with Reggie McFly!

I also met the insightful artist, Osei Agyeman-Badu who showed the contrast between the experiences Breonna Taylor and Anjanette Young, inciting the initiative for the ban on the No Knock Warrant. (Read about Anjaneete Young here and do your own research to learn more: https://gsunews.govst.edu/anjanette-young-turning-pain-into-power/)
His artwork demonstrated how their situations were so similar however ended drastically differently.
His artwork allowed me to reflect on how much I appreciate our ability to interpret and analyze our own culture and utilize our art and skills to portray our resilience, magnificence, and worthiness!

I met another artist Ariel Collins whose artwork represented the Crown Act!

Lastly, one of my favorite pieces, by Darin Triplett, demonstrated the ability of Black men to be free and display joy in more than the traditional ways we are conditioned to see. The painting portrayed a free spirit with a fan, and a polka-dotted shirt, and gave the feeling of Black Boy Joy!

Follow and support these artists! I did not take pictures of all the art I loved because a lot of it felt very sacred and personal.
However, I have shared their contact information so you can see the artist's work at their primary platform and support them in the future!
This year was the second year of the Black Creativity Night Out at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry and was brought back by popular demand!
I hope to attend again next year!
